"The Piano Music Surrounding Debussy"
Ⅱ.Debussy and Chopin
Performance and lecture by Momo Kodama
November 3 (Sat.), 2012
This year marks the 150th anniversary of the birth of the great French composer, Claude-Achille Debussy (1862-1918). A series of four recitals has been planned to commemorate that date, demonstrating how Debussy’s music serves as an important turning point in Western music. The recitals compare and contrast his piano works with those of several composers surrounding him, giving audience a deeper listening experience than usual. Playing the piano and giving the explanations is the Japanese pianist Momo Kodama, who has long been based in Paris.
The first recital in the series, held in March 2012, demonstrated the relation between Debussy and classical French music. The second will focus on Debussy and Chopin, with each composer’s preludes to be played and compared.
